Alexandra studied Exercise Science and Dance at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs leading to her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. After working for 5 years in Boston, she moved to New York and completed an Orthopedic Residency through NYU Steinhardt. Following residency, she became an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the American Physical Therapy Association, a distinction held by only five percent of American physical therapists.
Prior to joining Beyond Basics, Alex worked in orthopedics, dance medicine and pelvic rehabilitation in Boston and New York City. She has received training in pelvic floor intervention at the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and Pilates Mat certification through Power Pilates. She is an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor helping to train the next generation of physical therapists. She has taken continuing education in many types of intervention techniques, including Maitland, Mulligan, Sahrmann, and the Selective Functional Movement Assessment. This background provides her with many different types of treatment options in her tool box to help each client achieve their individual functional goals.
Alex became a physical therapist after attending rehab herself in her teen years as a dancer with knee pain. While she admits she was terrible at completing her home exercise program, she thought physical therapy was fun. While completing an internship in Boston, she was introduced to pelvic rehabilitation. She was shocked by how many people struggle with pelvic floor related issues that were integral to living a happy, comfortable, and productive life. Alex recognized that a large population of people who needed help and worked to become a physical therapist with the knowledge and heart they could turn to for treatment and advice. Her strong movement therapy background incorporates function and exercise in addition to hands-on techniques to decrease pain and improve mobility and ultimately, allow clients to reach their meaningful goals.
Alex is a former Pilates instructor and enjoys yoga, watching any performance in which people sing or dance (non-judgmental from Pitch Perfect to ABT and Hamilton), and sailing on design sailboats with her dad. In another life, she would have been either a professional ballet dancer or a dolphin trainer.
